Abe’s River Race
(June 28, 2014~Petersburg)

The 2014 Lincoln Heritage Water Trail’s “Abe’s River Race” will provide paddlers the opportunity to explore approximately 9-18 miles of the lower Sangamon River as it flows north from Sangamon County to Lincoln’s New Salem Historic Site in Petersburg, Illinois. Abe’s River Race will include nine racing divisions along with open registration for recreational paddlers who wish to enjoy the river and the day’s festivities:

Notes for All Paddlers:
Registrations can be made online at “LincolnHeritageWaterTrail.org” on the website’s “Race” page or in person.
Price Range is $25 – $40.
Online registration is $30 per person for racers (by 5-28-14) and $20 per person for non-racers. Please click the link on the website’s “Race” page to register or go to “www.getmeregistered.com.” After 5-28-14, the fee is $40 for racers and $25 for non-racers. Pre-registered racers and paddlers will receive an Abe’s River Race t-shirt.
Register in Person. You can arrive and sign up in person starting on Friday, June 27, 2014 from 5:00 – 8:00 pm at Riverbank Lodge in Petersburg, Illinois for all paddlers. You can also register on Saturday, June 28, 2014 starting at 8:00 am, also at Riverbank Lodge.
Paddler Packets will include: t-shirt, tickets for prizes and more, and will be presented at the Race reception at Riverbank Lodge in Petersburg, Illinois.
Race Reception and post-race party will begin at Riverbank Lodge in Petersburg around 1:00 pm. The awards ceremony will begin around 4:00 pm. Food and beverages will be available for purchase. The ceremony and party will feature live entertainment, awards, prizes and more.

Additional Details for Racers:
All racers must be at Riverbank Lodge on Saturday, June 28 at 8:00 am for the pre-race meeting.
Racers will be issued bibs at the pre-race meeting. The race starts on land at the Rolling Meadows Brewery (north of Springfield, IL and south of Cantrall, IL). It will be on Adventure Start and racers must carry their equipment down to the river, approximately ¼ mile.
Racers will be able to drop off their equipment on Friday night between 6-8pm or Saturday morning starting at 6:30am.

Additional Details for Non-Racers
After registering, all non-racers must be at Riverbank Lodge on Saturday, June 28 by 10:00 am for the pre-race meeting.
All non-racing paddlers will drop off their equipment at the Put-in staging area at Gudgel Bride starting at 7:30am but there is no parking at the site.
All recreational paddlers should be aware of the racers and yield appropriately.
All recreational paddlers are encouraged to paddle at a comfortable pace with the target of reaching the take-out point at Petersburg no later than 3:30 pm.
