USAT Fee Revisions

Triathletes,    –      Please read this.

For the first time in four years, USA Triathlon has determined the need to increase the annual membership fee $5, from $45 to $50, and the one-day membership fee $3, from $12 to $15, effective Jan. 1, 2016. For youth members, the annual membership fee will actually be lowered from $15 to $10 per youth member (no one-day membership option).

This increase allows us to continue to provide excess accident insurance to participants of our USA Triathlon Sanctioned Events, as well as race directors who host those sanctioned events. Significantly rising insurance premiums necessitate this increase in order for USA Triathlon to continue to provide the same level of coverage. Please note: this is only the fourth time USA Triathlon has increased membership fees in the past 15 years, with the last increase in 2012. USA Triathlon still offers competitive pricing compared to the average annual membership fee for all other National Governing Bodies in the U.S. Olympic Movement, which averages approximately 20 percent more for adults and 250 percent more for youth.

We have continued to serve more members than ever, with our two highest years of total annual members recorded in 2013 and 2014. We will continue to offer exclusive membership benefits, including a $20 voucher to; discounts on air travel, rental cars and hotels; 10 to 25 percent savings with USA Triathlon partners such as TYR, Rudy Project, JayBird and FuelBelt; inclusion in our annual National Rankings; the ability to compete at National and World Championship events; and more.

We are committed to providing resources for those in our community to reach their full potential. We will continue to offer more value to all members, investing in safety and education programs for athletes, coaches, race directors, officials and volunteers. We are also pursuing more growth opportunities in the sport, including bolstering our NCAA Emerging Sport for Women program, expanding opportunities for paratriathletes at the grassroots level, continuing our race series across the country for youth and beginning triathletes and identifying new programs that will help introduce more people to our sport like our Tri it Forward initiative.
