Best Reasons to Race KMC Sage City Sprint Triathlon

Triathletes and soon to be triathletes,
I wanted to share some insight and impressions for the August 13th KMC Sage City Triathlon.
This is the inaugural year for the event taking place at the Monticello Aquatic Center and is sponsored by Kirby Medical Center (KMC).
KMC is also the title sponsor for the wildly successful Kirby Derby running event, and the best part is they employ triathletes.
These trathletes approached us and asked us to present the Best Triathlon we can hold at this Central Illinois venue.
Working with triathletes to produce triathlons is our passion and I think we have produced one of the Best in the Midwest.
Here’s why:
The event includes an outdoor pool swim of 300 meters, a 13.5 mile bike and a 3.1 mile run.
It is perfect for a first time triathlete yet offers challenge for racers at all performance levels.
The swim is outside in a beautiful pool and is very safe since you are mere feet away from touching bottom, grabbing a side or a lane line and of course, lifeguards.
Remember pool, not open water – Best for timid swimmers.
We know after 15 years of hosting races that the swim is the part of triathlon that most peope worry about and seems to be a driving factor on entering the sport.
This swim is perfect to ease and erase any trepidations you may have about swimming.
The bike takes place on one of the smoothest roads I’ve ridden in a long time. It’s newly surfaced (Read: Fast) with a small climb thrown in for good measure, (and good glutes and quads).
The Best part is you ride from transition on highly restricted city roads to “the Road to Allerton”.
The Road to Allerton is gorgeous and one of the most peaceful bikes around, that is if you weren’t racing.
As you enter Allerton Park you pass landscaped grounds and unique architecture. The turnaround is the circle aorund the Sun Singer statue, a prize of Allerton Park.
The final part of the journey takes place on a converted paved rail to trail and offers an opportunity to run fast on a flat trail.
Once on the paved trail you are surrounded by shade and nature and the Best part is you cross the Sangamon River twice on an elevated boardwalk designed to allow access and viewing while not getting wet.
As previously mentioned our KMC contacts are triathletes and they knew what they wanted and it was the Best Course and the Best Swag.
So thanks to KMC, all racers get a custom race shirt, custom hybrid race belt, custom swim cap, custom cowbell and awesome FINISHER Medals for all. Best Swag.
You also get on course support with aid stations, volunteers, police, ambulance and medical teams on-site should any need arise.
After you cross the Finish Line (and get that coveted medal) you will be greeted by cold drinks, fresh fruits, chips and Subway Sandwiches.
To top it off the Overall and Age Group Awards are one of a kind and functional. Awards are given to the Top 3 Male and Female and Age groups 3 deep from 14 and under thru 85 and older, Male and Female.
And now the Best of the Best reasons to race the Sage; you have a cool swimming pool next to your car for chiiling out and active recovery before you leave. And yes, you crazies can do laps after the race.
Now that we have documented the Best reasons to race the Sage we must add a final thought (if you still need one?).
Given the venue, bike course, run course and SWAG, you will surely have your Best sprint race (and PR?) of the season!!
If you haven’t already, be sure to sign up at See you on August 13th!
Thank you,
