Illinois Triathlon Updates

Greetings Endurance Athletes,

I hope your season went well and that your rest and recovery went even better –

you’ll need to be in top form for the 2019 Triathlon season in Central IL.

Here are the highlights for 2019 so far:

The (previously) April Abe’s Mini and the Pioneer Sprint Triathlons will now be held in May.

After 11 years of analyzing the April Date and weather and other conflicts, we have decided to move these Season Openers to May 4th.

The past two years we have dealt with cold temps and snow in April and it became apparent that a May date would be better for everyone.

The new date of May 4th allows warmer weather to arrive and provides more time for your Tri training.

Also in May is the Capital City Biathlon on the 25th and now being held at Stuart Park. We anticipate that the new date and venue will help grow this 30+ year tradition in Springfield Il.

We are still working with USAT on this event format but the date and venue are confirmed.

Stay tuned for updates.

June is big for Triathlon next year and beyond; we have big, Long Tri News to be announced soon once all details are finalized.

We can tell you this, after competing in the Ironman European Championships in Germany last year, we were invited to the prestigious Challenge Roth for 2019.

It’s a true honor for an invite to race and we aren’t aware of any local Age Grouper that has competed in what is considered the World’s Largest Iron Distance Triathlon with over 6,000 racers in attendance.

While we are in Roth, we hope to meet with Felix, the owner of the Challenge Triathlons and re-start discussions about the possibility of bringing the Challenge Family to Illinois.  We met Felix , the owner of the Challenge Series, many years ago in Penticton and started a dialogue that we might Finalize for the June events.

While this is huge in itself, the News will be even longer than usual once it’s final.

Stay tuned for updates.

All July events including the Stoneman Sprint, Abe’s Olympic and the Route 66 Half Triathlons will be held on the 27th,, the last Saturday of the month.

As a result of the lawsuit with WTC, race names and logos may have changed but the Tri Harder/Smarter quality has not and you can expect it to be bigger and better in 2019.

For all the Half Distance racers, we are offering the Holiday Special of only $199 for the Route 66 Half now through December 24th. This makes a wonderful Christmas gift for someone or yourself.

The Route 66 will have new a look with new awards and more SWAG for the entrants.

Registration is now open at www.triharderpromotions.com for the Route 66 Half Distance Special and all other races will open on January 1st.

Please keep checking the site for details since many are being firmed up as I type.

Happy Holidays, Safe Training and Happy New Year

Sincerely,

Your Tri Harder/Tri Smarter Team
